2023 has been a challenging year for several reasons. This has been a transition year in which the economy has rebounded and industries have returned to pre-covid numbers but in which the supply chain has not fully returned to previous normality. This has required extra effort to respond to high demand and meet deadlines as best as possible.

2023 has been a record year for Saspi. We expected a good year because our clients were investing in quality machinery to respond to market growth, but reality has exceeded expectations.

To respond to this growth, companies have decided to invest in automated machines instead of increasing labor. This was a very common practice, especially in the United States, but it seems that the post-covid situation has given the sector a push in the direction of automation.

 

What does Saspi do to stay up to date with trends in the sector and thus be at the forefront?

We attend both seminars and courses and fairs in the sector or other sectors of interest to stay up to date with the latest developments. In addition, we have a fully equipped R&D department that works to adapt to all changes in the sector with the latest in technology.

We have current clients who have been with us for more than 40 years. There are many that have changed names and owners but remain loyal to Saspi when purchasing machines.

Committed to sustainability

The changes generated by the importance of sustainability and environmental awareness are more than evident. What practice have you implemented related to sustainability?

At Saspi we are in a constant search to be more sustainable and we carry out actions daily with the aim of helping the environment:

• There are several recycling points throughout the company with identified bins for the different materials to be recycled.
• We have modernized the heating in the assembly area and we have changed the roof for one with better thermal insulation and which in turn lets in more natural light.
• The urban location of the company allows 70% of the workers to go to Saspi on foot or by bicycle.

 

How do Saspi machines help improve the energy efficiency of processes?

Current Saspi machines are more energy efficient than machines from a few years ago. They are equipped with high efficiency IE3 electric motors, complying with the latest quality standards. In addition, we have optimized the entire pneumatic system of the machine so that compressed air consumption is minimal.

 

Learnings from 2023

Looking back, what have been the main learnings that Saspi obtained from the challenges of 2023?

We are a company that manufactures unique, high-quality machines tailored to each client and we are not used to a client asking us for several machines to deliver at the same time. This has been a challenge that we have gladly faced this year.

We have had to learn to manage a larger volume of stock than we are used to in order to respond to the increased demand this year.

What are the challenges that will mark next year 2024 and how do you plan to resolve them?

We believe that the main reason why companies are investing in new technologies is greater productive efficiency. The goal is to produce more with less labor and for one operator to be able to control several machines at the same time. On the other hand

Implementing predictive maintenance technologies to identify potential problems before they cause downtime will be crucial in the industry.

For all these reasons, we believe that automation and machine data control is the technology that will make the difference in the coming years.
